Since the beginning of the Holocene epoch, we have been mixing, mashing, and heating four humble ingredients, hoping for a miracle. It’s been recorded in the Bible and praised in holy scriptures worldwide, and yet, thousands of years later, we’re still standing around in awe whenever someone pulls off a perfect golden-brown creation. We have built entire industries, created heaps of YouTube trash, coddled Instagram addiction, and taken on micro debts around this age-old craft, acting like we’ve just discovered fire or reinvented the wheel whenever someone does it better than us. Generations have passed, and civilizations have risen and fallen, but here we are, still tweaking recipes, amazed at the slightest rise, and whispering, “How did you do that?”. But still, we can’t get her right.
